Greetings,

As a part of our Marine Science Camps, we build and deploy a satellite-tracked surface drifters (current trackers) in the Gulf of Mexico.

The
tracking map updates every four hours.

On August 6, 2024 during our most recent Family Marine Science Camp, we deployed another current tracker from a boat we were on (about five miles out) in the Gulf of Mexico. The green pin is the most recent position and the line it's attached to is the path of the current tracker since August 6.

The other two track lines are from:
1. our girls camp
2. our dad and son camp

early in 2024. The red pin at the end of each track line is where they ultimately beached. The movement of the drifters is affected by water currents / tides, and to a small degree by wind (which also affects currents).

Would you please forward this current tracking page to other homeschooling families who might me interested in seeing homeschool science / water current tracking in action.

Thank you!

Greg
